4 starsThe genre of love stories has always held a special appeal for both authors and readers, which is perhaps why we get to read so many love stories penned by different writers. You Raise Me Up is yet another book belonging to this genre penned by the talented writer Arjun Hemmady. What makes the book unique is that it tells a realistic tale of love that most young adults living in modern metro cities can relate to.  Everything about the book, from its cover page to its storyline and even language is simple, which makes it a nice read.
On a flight from Delhi to Mumbai, Alok Sharma, a chartered accountant, instantly finds himself attracted towards the cheerful and pretty Priyanka Mehra. Despite having a completely opposing nature to Alok, Priyanka also feels attracted towards him and soon the two fall in love. However, Alok is not able to commit himself fully to the relationship, as he is not able to let go of the dark secret from his past and move on in life. What is this secret that is holding Alok back? Will Priyanka’s love help him get over his past? Will the two lovers unite? To get the answers to these questions, you need to read the book.
Arjun Hemmady has presented a mature love story that deals with one of the major problems in modern Indian society. I will not reveal what this problem is as it will take out the suspense of the book. However, what I would like to share here is that Arjun has handled this delicate subject in the way of an expert. His character building is worth applauding although he could have done better by reducing the length of the dialogues.
Overall, I found You Raise Me Up to be a good read and wish Arjun all the best for its success.
