Back Ender By Udayan Mukerji – A Sneak Peek Into The Internal Working Of Government Officials

Most of us feel intrigued about how the minds of government officials responsible for the security of our vast nations work. The latest book by Udayan Mukerji titled Back Ender tries to provide some answers to this question by providing a sneak peek into the internal workings of a government officer in an intelligence agency.

Plot:

Pinto, a middle-aged and mid-level officer in the Internal Security Agency (ISA), feels satisfied with his job despite the high level of risk involved and the everyday challenges he faces. It takes the readers on a journey of understanding how intelligence officers operating at different levels, work together as a team to solve the cases and the difficulties they face. It is done through a description of the everyday charades of the seemingly mundane professional life of Pinto.

Character Development:

The author has done a great job of developing the characters firmly through the different phases of the book. It is especially true in the case of the protagonist, whose character has been developed in such a manner that it creates a mental picture of his everyday charades as a government official in the mind of the readers.

Story:

The storyline of the book is quite impressive and how it has been presented makes it seem more like a real-life story. It has been backed up by accurate detailing and twists in the plot. Here, the author has taken proper care to ensure that the readers get a profound knowledge about ISA as well as the mental workings of people working in such organizations.

Writing style:

The language of the book is so generic and innovative. Although the narrative is not over the top, it does become dull in some sections. Despite that, the overall writing style is such that reading the book proves to be an engaging and gripping experience.
Both the title and cover page of the book helps to create a sense of mystery and thrill that aptly suits the theme of the book.

Final Verdict:

This is a good book for light reading, and I give it 4/5.
