Having reviewed an earlier book by Luke Melia, I was really excited to get the opportunity to review his latest offering. The first thing that appealed to me about Kris Crossing is the unique design of its cover page. The display of fireworks with the silhouette of a face forming the background creates a sense of mystery and tragedy. I was quite curious to know the meaning of the design and started reading the book in earnest.
Hollie Crossing, a child celebrity overnight, is on her way to making her silver screen debut when a tragedy strikes and her dreams are shattered. She loses her father in a fire that burns down her home along with half of her face.  11 years after the tragedy, Hollie suddenly goes missing and the frantic search by her mother and boyfriend ends with the belief that Hollie has committed suicide. Meanwhile, in another part of the country, a teenager by the name Kris, who was raised in an orphanage is struggling to give up her habit of drug addiction and lead a clean life. Then one day she finds a wallet that apparently belongs to the missing Hollie Crossing. Believing it to be the one chance fate has given her to change her destiny, Kris decides to take on the identity of Hollie.
I really love the manner in which Luke builds the story through its various characters and effective narration. His ability to keep the readers engrossed until the very end is also praise-worthy. He adds the right elements to the suspense and appropriate twists and turns to the plot to make reading this book an emotional roller coaster ride for the readers. Most importantly, he uses a simple and flowing language that makes it easier for the readers to follow the storyline despite its various twists. I wish Luke all the best with the success of this truly engaging and entertaining book.

I got the book as a part of the review program in Outset”
