I was looking for something interesting to read when a friend suggested Deepak Koul’s latest book De-Void.  Upon first hearing the name, I was a bit confused about what the book might be about. Then I soon learned that it is a collection of short stories that focuses on exploring a wide range of human emotions. Upon receiving the book I was also mesmerized by the unique design of the cover page which both excited e and gave me goosebumps at the same time Having read and reviewed the author’s previous book, I was sure that reading his latest work would prove to be an exciting experience.
The book is very compact and spans only 78 pages although there are 12 different stories included in these pages. Each story has a unique theme and is open to the exploration of the readers with respect to the message they would like to interpret from the same. The one common thread that binds these different stories is that all of them are based on human conditions and behaviors and how people deal with the various situations that they have to face. They try to bring to fore some of the most burning social issues including homosexuality, domestic abuse, prostitution, and rape, etc.
De-Void is a typical short story collection in the manner in which each story is written is quite uneven. Thus the flow of some stories is smooth while others are written are in a more metamorphic way. However, each story is raw and this might not sit well with some readers, irrespective of the fact that they are still quite interesting and add value to the collection.
I received a copy from Writersmelon in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.’
