Rishi Vohra is a well known writer and having already reviewed one of his books earlier I was really excited upon getting the opportunity to review another of his books. That is until I was asked to review his latest book titled I Am M-M-Mumbai. I was really excited about the prospect of actually reviewing a novel from one of India’s most popular writers. The first thing that grabbed my attention on receiving the book was it cover page, which has been designed in a manner that tells different things to different readers.
Coming to the book, I Am M-M-Mumbai tells the tale of Rudra, a handsome and intelligent man, who dreams of making it big in Bollywood. However, the biggest hindrance in the path of his success is his habit of stammering, which makes him subject of ridicule and humiliation, wherever he goes. He feels completely stifled and embittered by the city that has crushed his dreams. That is when he meets Richa and his love for her lights up his path with a new hope. However, soon this hope is also snatched from Rudra and in his heartbroken state he falls into a downward spiral. Will Rudra ever be able to overcome his fears and insecurities to come out of this hopeless situation?
I Am M-M-Mumbai is a complete entertainer in true Bollywood style and features the elements to turn it into a perfect masala film and keep the readers engaged till the very end. The simple language, the precise storyline and the frequent element of surprise made it a good read for me. I was also impressed by the fact that the writer has used the names of real destinations which lend a bit of authenticity to the tale. Another fact about the book that appealed to me is its fluid writing. Overall I found the book to be quite interesting and wish Rishi all the best for its success.
