History can teach us many things including the tactics of winning marketing wars in the corporate world. The Book Throne Wars: Marketing Lessons From The Art Of War written by Pravin Shekar is a self-help book based on this very concept.
Premise:
The book features a few short teachers that teach important lessons to corporate leaders, marketers, and entreprenuers. The stories are inspired by the lives of the Chola and Pandya kings of South India, while the strategies and leranings presented in the book have been inspired by, “The Art Of War”, an ancient classic by Sun Tzu. The book explains the unique strategies adopted by the kings during the war and links them with the corporate world of today. It offers advice and suggestions about how these ancient techniques can be used in current times to improvise the management and marketing skills of modern-day professionals.
Book Format:
Each chapter in the book is divided into three sections, with the first section comprising the story, the second highlighting the things learned from it, and the third describing the best ways to implement these teachings in different aspects of business.
Concept:
This book is one of a kind as it details the marketing strategies which we can learn from prehistoric wars.
Writing style:
The writing style of the author is truly praiseworthy as he has turned a dull subject like history into something truly interesting and practically useful.
I feel that the book is aptly titled and reflects the fact that the lessons from history still hold much relevance in this age of technology.
Final Verdict:
A must-read book for corporate professionals that deserves 4.5/5 stars in my opinion.
