Countless unexplained things make us feel unnerved and terrified of even our own shadow. Such experiences tend to inspire countless authors to write books about these events. Recently I came across one such book titled The Uncanny: 12 Short Tales Of The Unexplained, which has been authored by Gautam Lahiri Diptarag Bhattacharjee, and Indraneel Ganguli.

Premise – The Uncanny

As the title suggests, the book is a collection of 12 short stories about things that cannot be explained. The stories are not exactly horrifying yet they leave the readers wondering what might have happened. Every story opens a portal into the supernatural domain and tries to narrate an experience that may leave the readers spooked.

One of the best aspects of the book is the use of graphics in the stories giving them the feel of newspaper cartoons. Each story has a truly unexplained ending, it does not exactly stir the emotion of fear of the unknown among the readers.

Who Should Read It – The Uncanny

The book makes a good read for people and children who love to explore the concept of supernatural phenomena and unexplained events. It is also a good book for people who might have had a similar experience and might be questioning whether or not the things they witnessed were real.

Writing Style The Uncanny

The author has followed a lucid writing style and the various anecdotes and visuals add to the appeal of the book. Sadly, even though the plots are exciting and entertaining, they are not exactly able to establish the concept of being uncanny.

The cover page design features a spooky image of a forest in black and white that perfectly matches the theme of the book.

Final VerdictThe Uncanny

This is a good book for one time read for kids and adults alike and I give it 3.5/5.
