Lord Shiva is considered to be the most powerful of the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, and the Shaivik philosophy is adopted by many to be a way of life. Among the various philosophies of Shaivism prevalent in India, Kashmir Shaivism is considered unique. Well, in that it portrays Lord Shiva as the Supreme Being and the sole reality of the universe. The Sounds Of Liberation, The Spanda Karikas, written by Ranjit Chaudhri, presents a deeper insight into Kashmir Shaivism.

Plot:

The book is essentially a translation of around 50 verses or Shiv Sutras that were originally composed by Sage Vasugupta in the late 8th century – early 9th century AD. These sutras were revealed to him by Lord Shiva himself and aim to bring consciousness to the lives of people. The author tries to bring to the fore the importance of living life to the fullest in the very sense of one’s being. The author has explained each verse in detail besides commenting on the ideas being expressed in each verse. The author also talks about the relevance of these ideas in an individual’s life besides educating the readers about the importance of staying in touch with the spiritual elements.

Writing style:

This book proves to be extremely insightful and revealing and helps to fill the life of the readers with greater meaning. It provides them with the path to explore and transform their mind, body, and soul to achieve their fullest potential. The writing style is inspirational and enlightening and takes the readers on a higher plane. Given that most ancient scriptures are extremely tough to interpret, the author has done a brilliant job making the book interesting even for a college-going student.

This is a good book for beginners interested in learning about spirituality as a way of life. It is also a must-read for anyone interested in Kashmir Shaivism or people who wish to understand ancient texts. The book can also prove to be a great choice for people seeking help in understanding their every action and its consequences.
