Book Review of The Sorcery of the Senses By Tanima Das – An Unconventional Tale Of Fantasy And Re-birth

Amazon

The concept of re-birth is deeply woven into the fabric of Hindu mythology. While several authors has explored this concept in their books, only a handful have combined it with a fantasy adventure to create an unconventional novel.

Tanima Das is one such author who has taken up this challenge and completed it successfully. Her book The Sorcery of the Senses combines the elements of mythology, history, and even astrology to take the readers on an exciting and adventurous trip.

Premise – The Sorcery of the Senses

Having reached his middle age, Dhruv is depressed and desolate after the death of his parents and his messy divorce. He decides to visit his paternal home seeking peace and more importantly a reason to live. But he is not prepared for the unexpected turn his life is about to take as he comes across an old jewelry item. As he touches the piece of jewelry, Dhruv is suddenly transported to another realm where his senses come alive. Moreover, he learns about his previous two lives where he was a girl and the superpowers he had. But most importantly, he learns about an all-powerful stone he possessed and then carelessly lost in both these lives. He also becomes aware that he needs to find this stone before it falls into the wrong hands and leads to the disintegration of the universe.

Character Development – The Sorcery of the Senses

The author has done a wonderful job of presenting the character of Dhruv and his various experiences and emotions realistically. His confusion, feeling of desolation, the surprise of travelling to another dimension, realization of his mistakes and failures and acceptance of his newfound purpose of life, have all been portrayed beautifully.
