Making decisions and choosing the right option is an integral part of the everyday life of people. However, many times our decisions may impact our lives in a far greater and different way than we expect. That is what Sajita Nair is trying to express in her latest book- The Search.

Plot:

Laya, a teenage girl living and studying in Banglore, unexpectedly becomes pregnant with her boyfriend Mridul’s child. Even as her friends and Mridul, tried hard to convince her to go for an abortion, Laya chooses to confide in her adoptive parents, living in Kochi, about her wish to give birth to the baby. This decision unfolds a series of events that land her to Gaya in search of her biological parents and her true self.

Character Development:

The characters are well-developed and realistic. Given that the book focuses primarily on Laya, her character is well sketched, and despite her simplicity, her character displayed great depth. I also loved how the character of Vaibhav was developed and given a true strong personality.

Story:

The story is simple yet powerful and has been told beautifully. The plot follows a clear narrative, with the author focusing more on emotions rather than words. Overall, it makes for a good reading experience, especially given the fact that the climax is heartwarming and presents quite a surprise.

Writing style:

The language is simple and easy to understand. The book presents the journey of Laya in a believable manner and without being too dramatic or preachy.
I think that the cover page of the book perfectly matches its theme and story. It creates the right setting for the readers to start this journey of self-exploration.

Final Verdict:

This is a good book for people looking for a light and heart-warming read, and I give it 4/5. Adopted children remain very much confused about their origin. Well, sometimes they fail to decide which parents to give importance to, the biological or adoptive.

My personal opinion:

To all the blessed kids in this world who are adopted, my message to them is to love your parents who adopted you. They are the ones who gave you the identity in this world and loved you so much, which your biological parents failed to offer. Love them back the way they did and trust me, life will be beautiful.
