4 starsThe trend of re-telling mythological tales is not new and taking this trend further is debutant writer Deepak Koul with his first book Corpokshetra: Mahabharata in the MBA Yug.  Unlike his contemporaries, who often prefer the subject of love of mystery for their first book, Deepak Koul has opted to tell a tale that forms an integral part of the everyday life of most Indians in an unusually fun-filled manner. The cover of the book reflects the fun that awaits the readers as they start turning the pages.
Deepak has set the tale of Mahabharata in the modern day corporate environment, with Hastinapur Inc. being a successful business empire rather than a kingdom. Although Bheeshma has been single handedly responsible for making the empire attain the heights of success, the empire is currently run by Duryodhana, even though his father Dhritarashtra is the chairman. With the Pandavas having returned from exile, where they had been forced to work for NGO’s only, they now seek their rightful claim in the empire. For this they hire a renowned consultant named Krishna, having 100% success record.
Coming from a person having a deep management background, I was really not surprised that Corpokshetra: Mahabharata in the MBA Yug has been presented from a management perspective. However, Deepak has maintained a fresh and lucid style of writing besides he has also maintained a smooth flow in the entire book. The task of presenting each character in a modern setting has also been handled extremely well by the author. Even though I had to consult the dictionary quite frequently to understand the meaning of some difficult terms, I found the book to be quite humorous and entertaining.
Overall, Corpokshetra: Mahabharata in the MBA Yug proved to be a good read and I wish Deepak all the very best for its success.
