Short Stories always hold a special place in my heart and am sure many those who don’t love reading novels or big size book will love it too. But why is it so? I can give my opinion although I am equally fond of novels. First of all, it is a fast read one. Secondly, you can read it on the go, and thirdly it shares a big story in a summarized and meaningful way. When the book is by none other than Chetan Soni, how can I give it a miss?

About the Book:

Long Short Stories by Chetan Soni is a beautiful collection of 5 short stories. The theme of the stories is romance, and each one of them narrates about modern romance. It depicts how this modern generation is slowly adapting to the same with social changes in lifestyles.

The Stories In Brief:

  1. Infidelity: The first story is the story of Raj and Priya. It narrates the story at the backdrop of the concept of infidelity. The reader will witness how the reality unravels in the life of protagonist Raj and how it impacted his viewpoint entirely. Raj was feeling guilty, but that didn’t stop him from continuing his erotic adventures. The story comes with a barbaric twist, leading to cinematic justice.
  2. The Chronicles of Raghu Kapoor: After such a dramatic romance, the second story deals with emotion which focuses on a relationship that crepitates because one failed to show the boldness and courage to say. It’s not a love triangle, but yes, three key characters are there. They are Raghu, Shreya, and Ananya.
  3. What’s in a Name: Yes, it’s the title of the third story that presents us with the saga of Krish and Lakshmi. We will learn how dark scars of our past can create a serious impact on our lives and restrict us from enjoying life the way we want. This story turned out to be my personal favorite as I am aware of a case resembling the plot of this story.
  4. Letters from a Stranger: Again, it’s a romantic story with a different shade of love. The story narrates the saga of Kundan and his broken heart. He was so devastated that he decided to skip to the mountains detaching him from the city. He loved Akriti a lot and was missing her badly. He thought to check his email, and there was a shocking surprise waiting for him. We need to value time and invest time to make the relationship a success. This story holds a special place in my heart.
  5. The Long Short Story: Ok, now this is the last one of the five stories of this book. What to say? Well, the story penned by Author Chetan is happening these days in large numbers. Yes, it’s a distance love. Distance love allows you to think if the relationship will work in reality or not.

My Verdict:

Writing short stories needs more skill than a novel writing. Author Chetan Soni displayed his fantastic talent for short story writing, and I am glad that I decided to read this book. To keep the readers hooked till the end is something that is a specialty of his writing. The plot of each story proved to be a captivating one for me, and a touch of reality is there. A few editing errors are there, which I am sure will be rectified by the editor in the next edition. But rest than that, I am happy to say I am a satisfied reader of this book.
