 The history behind celebrating Dhanteras

The story of celebrating Dhanteras commences with the popular king Huma and his child. Astrologers predicted that his son would die once he reached his 16th year bitten by a snake. The boy got married to a girl who had a lucky horoscope, and she decided to turn down fate. Accordingly, she made the arrangements with a heap of ornaments and coins at the entrance to lure the snake. The God of Death came in a camouflage of snake and got fooled with the arrangement of the girl. The God of death could not enter the room and left the place without biting the boy.
Another popular story behind celebrating Dhanteras is based on Lord Dhanvantari and the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is said that Lord Vishnu came out of the Ocean on the day of Dhanteras.
