Just take a look at the cover of the book and you get the feeling that it will unravel the bright and colorful world of Bollywood. Burning with anticipation I picked up Hi Fi In Bollywood, really not knowing what to expect, especially since it is only the second novel of author Rishi Vohra. However, as I started reading the novel I became totally engrossed in this emotional roller coaster. The book offered an insight into the constant struggles and obstacles that newcomers have to face in the path of realizing their dreams and making it big in the Indian film industry. I found this fun filled and chaotic novel to reflect the aspirations and struggles of Indian youth seeking a career in Bollywood.

The narration beautifully brings out the emotional turmoil of Rahyan Arora as he is forced to choose between a financial career in US preferred by his father and his long cherished dream of making it big in Bollywood. The other twist in the tale is his upcoming arranged marriage of convenience with US based medical student Vanita. When Rahyan finally makes the decision to discreetly return to India to pursue his dream of becoming a filmmaker, little does he know that it is the beginning of his journey of self-discovery. The various people that Rahyan meets during this journey take him on a rollercoaster ride starting from the world of reality into the world of dreams before finally ending again in the world of reality.

While reading Hi Fi In Bollywood, I felt that I was living scenario that is quite common in every other household in India. It gives shape to the burden of parental expectations that most youngsters in India are forced to carry weather are not they are capable of doing so. It also gives voice to the growing undercurrents of friction and rebellion within families between the people of older and younger generations. At the same time it provides an important lesson to the readers that irrespective of the circumstances, people who never quit trying, ultimately realize their dreams!
