Upon hearing the name The Shadow Of Darkness, my first reaction was that the book must be about some mystery tale. However, when I got the book for reading, I found it to be a tale of courage, of determination and most importantly a book about love and friendship. Penned by writer Priyanka Baranwal, The Shadow Of Darkness is a tale about the unyielding strength of women even in the face of the worst nightmares of life.
Sejal, a shy and timid college student is constantly supported by her best friend since childhood Diya, in handling people and situation she feels uncomfortable about. Diya also shares Sejal’s secret of having nightmares about a night when two criminals attempted to molest her mother more than a decade back. Despite the love and trust of her parents, Sejal is not able to confide about her misery with them, until they take it up on their own. Having, shed her fears and burdens Sejal is now ready to move ahead in life. But the nightmare that has been troubling her for years now returns to haunt her in real. Will it destroy Sejal’s life for good this time or will she have the courage to face it head-on?
Priyanka has written the book in a passionate manner and this is reflected in the way that each character has been build. The story is engaging and motivating and comes with an unexpected climax that adds to its entertainment value. The language is simple and the situations are realistic, which make the book a great read. Most importantly it covers a wide range of issues related to women in our society without straying away from the track of the main storyline. The book even gives us a unique message in that not all nightmares end in horror, but some transform life as well. I wish Priyanka all the best for her second book.
