4 starsOn first hearing the name, Miss Loner’s Lonesome Time with the Loonies, I thought that it was some kind of a tongue-twister. When I later learned that the phrase was actually the name of an e-book, I became curious enough to read and review it. The interesting name is matched perfectly by the beautifully designed cover page, which despite not providing any idea about what to expect from the book, makes the onlookers curious enough to make them read it.
In addition to having to deal with her stuck up writing job, Miss Lonesome also has to handle other aspects of her diverse personality. So, one fine Friday evening just before Christmas, she decides to spend the holiday alone in the seclusion of her room. However, the constant interference of the Cardigans, who are her guardians, and her neighbors Pickle Pie and Marshmellow Mama, threaten to ruin her plans for the big day. Adding to her woes is her recently acquired knowledge that her only friend Bonny Lass is having an affair with Sync Dip, the guy of her dreams. In a bid to lessen the pain of her broken heart, Miss Lonesome, wanders on the streets of Mumbom trying to understand the world of adults she lives in as well as her own emotions.
Miss Loner’s Lonesome Time with the Loonies proved to be an extremely interesting read. The writer Akanksha Vaishnav has managed to present this coming-of age tale with a perfect balance of comedy and seriousness. From her unusual naming of characters, to her ability to maintain the flow and pace of the story all indicate her talent as a writer. The very fact that the story is mostly narrated in the form of monologues that Miss Lonesome holds with herself further add to its uniqueness. I truly enjoyed reading this book and wish Akanksha great success with it.
